What is the Kingston Open?
The Kingston Open is a three-day official NASPA-rated Scrabble tournament to be held in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Where is it?
It will be held at the Thriftlodge Kingston at 1187 Princess Street. View the map to get directions from your city.
When is it?
February 18-20, 2017. See the Schedule for times.
Is that a holiday?
Yes, Monday, February 20th is Family Day in Ontario and Presidents' Day in the United States.
If you're in Québec, you might need to take that morning off work, but it's worth it!
How much does it cost to participate?
The entry fee is $100CAN or $75US.
How much are accommodations?
Secure your hotel stay quickly to get the special Kingston Open rate of $80CAN/night! That's about $60US. We negotiated this amazing rate to kick off this brand new tournament. But spaces are limited and the block will fill quickly! Contact the hotel and ask for the SCRABBLE room block!
If you do not wish to stay at the hotel overnight, a $20 Commuter Fee will be charged on top of your entry fee.
How many games are being played?
It's an impressive 20 rounds over three days! But don't worry, we'll have an efficient but comfortable Schedule.
What lexica are available?
Both OWL and Collins divisions will be offered. In Collins, it's a 5-point-per-word penalty.
How will I compete with the best players?
Generous class prizes will be offered that will make it competitive and fun for all!
How will I compete with the worst players?
Nicely. If they get both blanks, don't complain!
What happened to the Family Day Faceoff in Mississauga?
There were a number of reasons why the Faceoff could not proceed after all. The venue cost went up and another group was interested in using the space. There have been other one-day events added in Mississauga later this year. Ultimately, the Kingston Open will provide a much better experience for more players. We hope you can join us.
How do I become a member of NASPA?
All players must be current NASPA members. Visit the NASPA Membership page for information on how to join or renew.
